This is the first and last time I'll read Chris Bohjalian. I'm guessing this is supposed to fall under mystery/horror, but it was neither mysterious nor frightening. Bohjalain carries the story fairly well to about the halfway point, and then it just falls apart. Why isn't the mother more concerned about the creepy "herbalist" neighbors who take entirely too much interest in her twin daughters? Why can't the author write children? Is "don't be a pill" a regional thing, because I've never heard a 10-year-old say it.By the end I was just reading to see how it ended, and even that disappointed me.
